SCAN is mourning the passing
of our fellow astronomer, Jiri Kolejka. Jiri was a member of rhe RVAS,
but he was a avid observer and SCAN members observed with him many
times, mostly at the Cahas Mountain Overlook. Our thoughts are with his
Family and friends in this time of grief and sorrow. Rest, Jiri, and we
will remember you and celebrate your life. |

Once Again, This Year, Another Great
Benefit of SCAN Membership |
SCAN has continually worked with
quite a few groups as part of the SCAN goal of Astronomy
Outreach. Once again, like last year, and the year before, as a result of donations from these groups, all SCAN members
have had their dues paid for the 2012-2013 year by SCAN. That is three
years straight of no dues for SCAN members and free membership to the
Astronomical League. Congratulations SCAN Members!!! |

Outreach with a large Church
Camp
|
SCAN had several outreach
events with a church group at a large summer camp. Spread out over 4
different days, these outreaches introduced astronomy and the beautiful
views through telescopes to a wide range of youth. These young people
were a pleasure to meet and talk with, and we enjoyed the opportunity to
spend time with them.

Outreach with the Student
Conservation Association
|
SCAN had an outreach event
with the Student Conservation Association. These young men and woman
have dedicated their summers, and some several years, to working to
clean and clear our natural trails. The attendees were from Missouri,
California, New York, Georgia, and other states. We had a great time
showing the stars to this fine group. |
Six Outreach Events in July
2010 |
SCAN has six outreach events
scheduled for the month of July 2010. All six of the events are private
outreach events that SCAN is participating at the request of the private
groups. We still plan to be at our monthly public outreach events if the
skies cooperate. The total attendance for these events should be close
to 2000 participants. |
